During these unprecedented times, the LFJCC COVID-19 Taskforce, Board of Directors, and staff have relied on the guidance of the CDC, State and local regulatory agencies as well as Jewish values such as Pikuah Nefesh - the safeguarding of human life, to drive our decision making as we have responded to this crisis. Based on this guidance we have created a comprehensive reopening plan. This plan builds upon LFJCC's already recognized high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness – and takes them to the highest level. For details, visit lfjcc.org/reopening

Macbeth is a Shakespearean tragedy involving the inevitable fate of someone who challenges the natural order of things. A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia.

JCompany Young Artists Showcase: MOVIE MUSICALS!
MONDAY, August 3 at 5:30pm

An evening of talent featuring the Young Artists of JCompany! LIFE IS A CABARET! Bring on your favorite Movie Musical songs! Whether it be from a movie that inspired a musical OR a musical that became a movie version, or a musical!

*Please apply by July 29!

At this time, applications are now CLOSED. Keep an eye on this website for our next virtual showcase.

HOW IT WORKS:

After our deadline for submissions has passed, we will pick the appropriate amount of performers at random out of a hat. We will limit the amount of performances in order to keep the time for each showcase palatable for the audience. You may or may not make it into every showcase, depending on how popular it is. We will let you know if you are in.

Please know you must have your own accompaniment (whether live or recorded) and you MAY NOT sing along with any Cast Albums with actors' voices. After all it is called a SHOWCASE not a SING-WITH-BEN-PLATT-CASE. If you are a performer you will be required to meet in the Zoom room the hour before to do a sound check and to get our technology prepped and ready for an audience.

I look forward to working with you on this fun new virtual project and showing off to the world how incredibly talented our JCompany Young Artists are! - Joey

ON THE TOWN is JCompany's year-round performance group, comprised of talented young artists from all over San Diego County. This talented ensemble brings their artistry to the greater community while learning to work together with respect, integrity and professionalism, nurturing and encouraging each other personally as well as artistically.

During this time our Ambassador Performing Group - JCompany ON THE TOWN is needed more than ever to represent JCompany and to bring joy to those who need it most. Judy and Joey are working on some great and innovative new ways not only to work together but also to perform for others until our world is back to some form of normalcy. We are so proud to say, the steps that the JCC has taken to help guarantee our safety, makes JCompany and the JCC the safest and best place to be in all of San Diego County. This year, we have dedicated Mondays for OTT rehearsals and will be restructuring the group to accommodate smaller rehearsal settings while also increasing the opportunities for students to join the group. In this brand new play by Bess Welden, Elinor and Leo, a modern American sister and brother, are exiled to clean out their grandmother’s slightly spooky attic and are none too happy about the task. But when Elinor discovers an old notebook written in a foreign language, the kids find themselves plunged into a supernatural world in which their long dead great-great grandmother and a group of elves bring Yiddish language and folktales to life. Full of humor and heart, playwright Bess Welden’s Magic in the Attic is a celebration of the universality of story and the power of connecting with cultural heritage.

It is 1944. Imprisoned at Terezin Camp in Czechoslovakia, Austrian artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeis uses her art lessons to help the children cope with the realities of their daily existence. Despite the terrible conditions, Terezin is touted as Hitler’s “gift to Jews” and when the International Red Cross presses for an inspection, the community is forced to contribute to Nazi propaganda. They devise a plan to communicate with the visitors, using a production of the opera Brundibar. No matter how huge and terrible the lie, truth can still triumph through the enduring strength of human love and creativity.

We are proud to once again partner with the National Jewish Theater Foundation (NJTF) - Holocaust Theater International Initiative (HTII) to commemorate its ongoing Remembrance Day Readings program. Join for three performances this year on Kristallnacht (November 10, 2020), International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27, 2021), and Yom HaShoah/Holocaust Memorial Day (April 8, 2021)
