JCompany Youth Theatre’s RAW Series celebrates exciting works of theatre in a dynamic way. Designed to introduce young artists to the fast pace of professional musical theatre, this series will keep you on your toes as we put a full length musical reading together in one week. On the last day, our cast, supported by professional directors and musicians, takes the stage with books in hand, ready to rock. JCompany artists and audiences alike will be dazzled by this whole new level of artistic athleticism and storytelling. Get your tickets at the door for these special readings!
Sunday in the Park with George

Inspired by the painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, Sunday In The Park With George, Stephen Sondheim’s stunning masterpiece merges past and present into beautiful, poignant truths about life, love and the creation of art. One of the most acclaimed musicals of our time, this moving piece was nominated for an astounding 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical with such songs as “Putting It Together”, “Move On”, ”Sunday” and “Children And Art”.

Before Rent, there was Tick, Tick... Boom!. An aspiring composer questions his life choices on the eve of his thirtieth birthday in Jonathan Larson's autobiographical musical. Everyone will love this youthful, endearing and thoughtful piece, and will surely embrace the universal ideal of holding onto your dreams through life's most difficult challenges. Containing the songs “No More”, “Real Life”, “Come To Your Senses” and the up-dated Sondheim tribute, “Sunday”. Tick, Tick... Boom! takes you on the playwright/composer's journey that led to a life-changing, Broadway blockbuster.

The collaborators on Chess are giants of rock music and rock musicals and they have created a complex rock opera that played to full Broadway houses and standing ovations. Here the ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, competitive gamesmanship, super power politics and international intrigues. The pawns in this drama form a love triangle: the loutish American chess star, the earnest Russian champion and a Hungarian American female assistant who arrives at the international chess match in Bangkok with the American but falls for the Russian. From Bangkok to Budapest the players, lovers, politicians, and spies manipulate and are manipulated to the pulse of a monumental rock score that includes “One Night in Bangkok” and "Heaven Help My Heart.
TICKETING INFORMATION: Tickets for all RAW Readings will be sold at the door, 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. All readings will take place in the LFJCC Garfield Theater. We hope to see you there!
