20th Season Accomplishments (2012-2013)

Season Overview: The award-winning J*Company Youth Theatre showcased over 300 youths, ages 7 -18, who developed self-confidence and self-esteem as they pursued their dreams of performing on the stage. J*Company, with permission and encouragement from the Streisand Foundation, created the first- ever season paying tribute to one of the world’s greatest success stories… Ms. Barbra Streisand. This season’s line-up included: FUNNY GIRL, YENTL, GYPSY and HELLO, DOLLY!  Nearly 500 school children attended a J*Company production during the Streisand Season (2012-2013). 

Marketing & PR: J*Company was featured in many print and online publications this season with its tribute to Barbra. 

Educational Opportunities: In an effort to place education through the entire process of a live theatre production, J*Company accomplished the following:
A partnership  with Broadway San Diego to bring professional master classes to our young Artists working with touring professionals from shows such as PETER PAN, GREEN DAY’S AMERICAN IDIOT, BILLY ELLIOT, and SISTER ACT.
J*Company Young Artists went to see San Diego Opera’s premiere production of THE DAUGHTER OF THE REGIMENT, working to keep opera alive in the United States.

Educational Audience Outreach: This season J*Company Youth Theatre continued to create and distribute our “Insights – A J*Company Youth Theatre Educational Guide” which accompanies various shows to encourage arts education in the classroom before and after the performance.  These guides/curriculums meet the California standards for theatre arts and are available online for free to all.

Ambassadorship: J*Company ON THE TOWN, a performing ambassador and charitable outreach group were invited by and performed for high profile events such as Heart Of A Child Concert (November 2012), SDCJC annual Book Fair, KUSI’s Songs For The Season; annual TV holiday special (December 2012) Rady Children's Hospital's Conference; with 1200 guest from all over the world (January 2013), Yom HaShoah (April 2013), Disneyland (June 2013) and much more.

Charitable Outreach: The members of J*Company’s student-run community service group, Artists Taking Action (a.k.a. ATA), find inventive ways to give to the community or those less fortunate. This year alone ATA  raised over $1,000.00 in funds for charity’s such as Aids Walk San Diego and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and bringing the arts to underprivileged youth in San Diego. ATA is organizing its 4th Annual Tony Awards Party to raise funds for charity.

Musicians in the Making: part of J*Company beginning in the 2012-2013 season, MITM is a showcase for emerging young talents in an intimate concert setting.  These events are free admission and open to the community. 

Strategic Plan: J*Company has embarked on a comprehensive strategic plan in order to help the program to continue to grow and maintain its place as San Diego’s leading theatre company for youth.
